We've all seen marketing on the internet. Through ads on a YouTube video, a commercial on a Pandora station, or a running ad on the side of a web article on Yahoo. Internet marketing is everywhere you go on the internet, even when you do not realize it is there. I'm sure you're saying "How could I realize it is not there?" It is so small and so simple you just do not pay that much attention to it. On almost every website, there is a subtle hint to explore other websites. A Yahoo article for example, has subtle hints at other websites, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. With all these sites there you begin thinking, when was the last time I checked my Facebook, maybe only a few hours ago but you still want to go see what your friends are talking about. This small little share button on a website just made you want to go to another website. What about that website you might not have? Some people are not on every social media site. When you see a Twitter share button and you do not have that but now you're interested and want to check out that site. This small share button just marketed Twitter to you. In a subtle, calm, hardly noticed way, this share button made you think of joining the site and made you want to check it out. If you decide to build a profile with that site, it was successful. Another small way that is not noticed by many is a new technique Facebook uses with its videos. Facebook now gives you the option, on the mobile app, to look at more similar videos. Videos similar to the one you just watched, possibly made by the same person or in the same category. Facebook uses this effective method to get you to like more pages and enjoy their site. Trying to make them your number one choice in social media activities. Facebook also now places ads in your timeline for different pages, Twitter and Instagram also do this. Scrolling through your timeline and eventually you run into an ad or a page link that you may not really care about but it is being marketed to you, sometimes it will be an app being called the "#1 Newest Game in the App Store" and other things to make you want to check it out. Internet marketing is practically in your news feed more than actually updates on friends. These small hints at different sites, apps, and pages are all marketing strategies that have been strategically placed there to grab your attention with more ease. Recognized or not, clicked on or not, you have been marketed to.
